10 Simple Ways to Simplify Your Life

Do you find yourself wishing you could simplify your life and make everything a little easier?

Juggling multiple responsibilities as a mom, balancing work and family life, and ensuring I make time for myself are certainly not without their challenges.

I’ve tried to simplify my life countless times, but I often fall short in one area and feel like I have to start over. So instead of trying to do everything at once, I decided to focus on simplifying one aspect at a time.

Here are a few things I’ve been focusing on simplifying my life that you can also try applying as you work on simplifying yours.

Prioritize your time

Time flies so fast, and if that’s not enough reason to start spending it on what truly matters, then I don’t know what is. Let go of unnecessary commitments and activities that are simply time-wasters. Be intentional in how you spend your time and learn to set boundaries for your own well-being.

Limit social media use

Speaking of time-wasters, mindless scrolling on social media is not only mentally unhealthy but also unproductive at best. A social media detox becomes necessary when it consumes too much time and causes us to compare ourselves to others’ highlight reels. I now limit myself to just 15 minutes of social media time daily and, as a result, there are days when I don’t even check my Instagram anymore.

Declutter your space

I think most of us, if not all, tend to hold on to things, thinking we’ll use them one day, but we never actually do. Get rid of anything at home that you haven’t used and is only collecting dust or reminds you of purchase mistakes. Let go of clothes that no longer fit or don’t align with your style. After all, it’s best to wear something that makes us feel good about ourselves.

Reduce over-consumption

Decluttering loses its purpose if we keep buying more than we truly need. Overconsumption wastes money, takes up space, and leads to clutter when items go unused. By being mindful of our purchases, we can avoid buyer’s remorse and simplify our lives with intention.

Manage your finances

Create a budget and stick to it, even when it feels challenging. Besides budgeting, another effective way to take control of your finances and understand where your hard-earned money goes is by tracking your expenses. I make it a habit to list all my expenses daily, which has helped me identify my spending patterns and avoid unnecessary purchases. Also, keep a tab on where you use your credit card, as it’s easy to lose track of spending if we don’t take control of our card usage.

Use planners and calendars

With so much on our plate, using planners and calendars can help us stay organized and on top of our to-do lists. I make it a habit to write all my appointments in my calendar and add my errands to my planner, which helps keep my mind clutter-free. Check out my Etsy shop for beautifully designed printable planners and calendars to help you stay on track.

Create a daily routine

Establish consistent habits for your morning and evening routines. It could be as simple as doing stretches in the morning or enjoying a cup of chamomile tea at night before bed. Incorporating self-care and exercise into my daily routine has been essential in achieving my goal of a healthier lifestyle.

Embrace slow days

I enjoy a slower pace of life. One reason I worked on simplifying my life is so I wouldn’t be constantly busy, rushing from one commitment to another. I always make sure to have a slow ‘me’ time every morning. By giving ourselves these ‘moments,’ we can take a pause and recharge our focus.

Cut-out toxic relationships

It’s not selfish to remove people from our lives who drain our energy or bring negativity. This includes those who don’t value you or your time. Unfollow them on social media and protect your peace. Our time is better spent with people who support and inspire us to be our best.

Focus on the present moment

This is something I strive to remind myself of every day, especially when anxiety arises. If you’re like me and sometimes dwell on past regrets or future worries, shifting your focus to the present can definitely help lessen anxiety. By being present, we can appreciate our lives more and stay grounded in life’s challenges.

These are the 10 ways I’m simplifying my life. If any of these resonate with you, I encourage you to try them out and see how they can help bring more peace and clarity into your daily life.
