Where to Stay in Macau: Budget Hotel Guide

Wondering where to stay in Macau on a budget? Whether you’re visiting for one night or a few days, this Macau budget hotel guide is for you. I recently visited Macau and booked an affordable hotel in the city center during our three-day trip. It was conveniently located near Senado Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as the Ruins of St. Paul and the Grand Lisboa.

Macau is composed of three parts: the Macau Peninsula, Taipa, and Coloane. The Macau Peninsula is the city center, while the Cotai Strip is located between Taipa and Coloane.

I specifically chose to stay in the city center because I wanted to be near Senado Square and get a feel for the authetic Macau. For affordable accommodations in Macau, the city center is also the best option. I first searched for hotels in the city centre at Agoda.com. To narrow down my list, I use the filter options to select only hotels with excellent guest reviews and then sort them by the lowest rates.

I found three budget-friendly options and will share them one by one in this post. Among the three, I chose to book at Belive&More, so I’ll share my experience there first.

Belive&More

Belive&More is a 2-star boutique hotel right in the old city center. It is conveniently located in front of a bus stop and about 12-minute walk from Senado Square. Alternatively, you can also take a bus to this UNESCO World Heritage site.

Although it’s only a 2-star hotel, it features a charming colonial-style exterior that blends well with the historical architecture of Macau’s city centre, along with stylishly designed rooms. It offers great value for budget-conscious travelers, whether for a short or long-term stay. It has a variety of room types, from single rooms to family rooms.

I booked a superior twin room for a 3-night stay. The room was small but modern and clean—just the way I like it. I also loved the wall details, the orange accent pillows, and the art sticker on the mirror. The mirror itself had a stylish yet simple gray frame that complemented the room well.

Hotel Amenities & Facilities:

All rooms come with essential toiletries and amenities, including a kettle, a safe, a hairdryer, and a small desk with a chair. Complimentary instant coffee, tea, and two bottles of water are provided. However, the free bottled water is only available on the first day. For the following days, guests can refill their bottles or tumblers at the water dispenser in the common area.

Belive&More has a small reception area, but it also has a kitchenette lounge where guests can reheat their food, eat, play foosball, or simply unwind while waiting to leave for the airport. The front desk is also open 24 hours, so you can check in late if you arrive in Macau at night or in the wee hours of the morning.

Payment Information:

A deposit of 500 MOP is required upon check-in. You can choose to pay in MOP or HKD. I paid the deposit in HKD and received a full refund when we checked out of the hotel.

As for the room rates, we paid PHP 9,501.47 for a superior twin room for a 3-night stay. Keep in mind that rates may vary depending on the season.

How to Get from Macau International Airport to Belive&More:

Take bus number MT4 from Macau International Airport and get off at the Alm. Sergio / Trav. Lido bus stop. The stop right before the hotel is at McDonald’s, which is just a few steps away from Belive&More. You can choose to get off at the McDonald’s bus stop or wait until the next stop, which is directly at the hotel.

If you prefer a hassle-free ride from the airport, you can book your transfer in advance on Trip.com.

Rating: 8.7 Excellent on Agoda

Additional Info:

Aside from McDonald’s, there are local eateries near the hotel, a grocery store, and a 7-Eleven across the road. You can also either walk to Senado Square, the Ruins of St. Paul, and Grand Lisboa or take a bus, whichever you prefer.

The staff is also commendable for their excellent customer service. We often asked them which bus number to take, and they always provided accurate information.

Macau Hotel S is a modern, chic, and stylish 3-star hotel in the heart of Macau’s city centre. It is the closest to Senado Square and the Ruins of St. Paul compared to Belive&More and IFU Hotel. Although the hotel was originally built in 1994, it underwent a renovation in 2022. Now, the hotel looks new and elegant—perfect for travelers looking for an artsy hotel vibe.
