Where to Stay in Hong Kong: Best Areas and Hotels in Kowloon

Planning a trip to Hong Kong and wondering where to stay? Finding the right accommodation can make a big difference in your overall travel experience. So choosing the right area and hotel can help make your trip more enjoyable and comfortable. Many visitors choose between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, two of the most popular districts in the city.

During my visits to Hong Kong, I’ve always preferred staying in the Kowloon district, particularly in Tsim Sha Tsui. Its convenient location and easy access to shopping, dining, and major attractions make it an excellent base for exploring the city. Aside from Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok and Jordan are also great areas to stay in Kowloon, and all three are located close to one another and well connected by the MTR.

In this guide, I’ll share my personal experiences and hotel recommendations based on my trips to Hong Kong to help you decide where to stay during your visit.

Page148 Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui

Page148 Hotel is a chic, modern hotel located on Austin Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. This 4-star boutique hotel is in a prime location, near MTR stations, restaurants, and some of the top attractions in Hong Kong. Guests can also enjoy room service, as well as a café that serves one of the best tiramisus I’ve had and is definitely worth trying during your stay.

During our 4-night stay, we had the opportunity to experience three different room types at the hotel. We booked one of their triple rooms for two nights and also stayed in their twin and family rooms. All three rooms feature large windows with city and park views, while the family room also includes a seating area. Guests are also provided with a Pocket WiFi device to use while exploring the city.

While Page148 is located in Tsim Sha Tsui, it is also very close to the Jordan area. The closest MTR station to the hotel is Jordan Station, although Tsim Sha Tsui Station is also just a few minutes away on foot. Both Nathan Road and Canton Road are nearby as well, with plenty of shopping and dining options.

Hotel Stage in Jordan

Hotel Stage is another boutique hotel located in Jordan, Kowloon. It features a contemporary design and has a spacious lobby with unique art pieces on display. The hotel has a warm ambiance from the moment you arrive, along with an onsite restaurant for guests to enjoy during their stay. It’s also close to MTR stations, shops, and eateries, including Temple Street Night Market, which is just a short walk away.

We spent two nights at Hotel Stage in one of their Deluxe Twin Rooms, which I booked through Agoda. Our room had a minimalist style with a neutral white and gray color palette. I also loved the large windows and city views, which made our stay even more pleasant and relaxing. Aside from its lovely design, the room offered ample space, making it a comfortable option for different types of travelers.

The Beacon in Mongkok

The Beacon is located in the heart of Mong Kok, just steps away from popular attractions such as Sneaker Street and Ladies’ Market. There are also plenty of restaurants and cafés nearby, including the famous Ichiran Ramen on the lower floor of the hotel. Aside from its excellent location, the property stands out among the surrounding buildings because of its unique and impressive exterior.

Our room featured a neutral color palette with wood accents, creating a warm and cozy vibe. It had large windows and a small desk, while the bathroom added a subtle pop of color with its green-toned tiles and stylish fixtures. Another highlight of the hotel was the shared kitchenette and lounge area, where guests could refill their water bottles, enjoy complimentary coffee, or comfortably enjoy takeout meals.

I booked our room through Agoda for a two-night stay while searching for hotels in Mong Kok. There were several other options in the area, but I found The Beacon to be the better choice for us. Staying in Mong Kok was also a great experience, as there are plenty of dining and shopping spots nearby, including Langham Place.

As part of your trip planning, consider getting travel insurance through SafetyWing. It’s the travel insurance I personally use whenever I travel abroad.

Whether you prefer staying in Tsim Sha Tsui, Jordan, or Mong Kok, these three hotels are excellent options for a comfortable stay in Hong Kong. I personally enjoyed our stay at each property, and they are all conveniently located for travelers who want to explore the Kowloon area.

While these are not considered budget hotels, I found that they offer good value for money when it comes to comfort, amenities, and location. If you’re planning a trip to Hong Kong, I highly recommend booking your accommodation in advance, as hotel rates can vary depending on the season and demand.
